The Wellington Dukes sailed to a 7 – 4 victory over the Lindsay Muskies in Friday’s Junior A hockey season opener.
Edward Moskowitz scored three goals for the Dukes, two on a power play and one while short-handed. David Campbell, Corbin Roach, Ryan Smith and Connor Hunt all scored a goal each.
The game got heated in the penalty-filled second period, with penalties being handed out left and right throughout the second and third periods until the game ended.
Meanwhile the Trenton Golden Hawks fought tooth and nail for a 2 – 1 victory over St. Michael’s in front of nearly 700 fans at Duncan McDonald Memorial Gardens.
Despite the Golden Hawks taking 59 shots on net, both teams were scoreless going into the third period before both teams picked up a single goal each.
Matthew Cato managed to secure the win for the Golden Hawks with a goal in double overtime.
The Wellington Dukes face off with the Georgetown Raiders Saturday night.
