Nearly 2,000 jobs are available across the Quinte region, with no takers.
Members of the Quinte Economic Development Commission (QEDC) heard a report on Thursday that 1,900 jobs are available on the website of Centre for Workforce Development on a posting across Hastings, Lennox and Addingnton and Prince Edward County. QEDC CEO Chris King tells Quinte News it’s an ongoing issue for many businesses.
King says, “The baby boomers get older and they retire and it’s creating a gap. Coupled with maybe the hangover from COVID-19, people are deciding they may want to do something else besides stay in the job they’re currently in.”
He says, “There is no single solution but there are a number of things that are happening. The work in the Quinte program that the municipalities are working on, it promotes all those local jobs and they’re going to have a full external marketing program to market to areas outside the Quinte region to attract workers to come to our area. That’s part of it. The Quinte Technology Adoption program – that pilot project we did.”
King also says, “There is a training fund, available to upgrade people to become more effective.”
