After a four year absence, former NHL defenceman Jerome Dupont is back behind the bench of the Trenton Golden Hawks as they prepare to open the new OJHL season Friday night.
Dupont was coach and general manager of the G-Hawks from 2011 to 2017, winning an OJHL championship and two Dudley Hewitt Cups leading to a pair of appearances in the National RBC Cup.
Dupont says that is Trenton’s goal again this year.
Dupont describes the Golden Hawks as big, gritty, smart, hard working and fast.
On Wednesday the Golden Hawks announced their leadership group for the new season.
Mitch LaFay has been named captain.
Dupont said he went after LaFay in the summer because he is a good player with good leadership qualities.
The assistant captains will be returnees Nathan Oickle, Jordan Fuller, Austin D’Orazio and Matt Cato, along with newcomer Jaden Raad.
Trenton hosts the St. Mikes Buzzers Friday night at 7:30 in the season opener at the Dunc McDonald Community Gardens.
