Prince Edward County Planning Committee voted to approve a zoning change for a property in Hillier ward, as part of a plan to construct an estate winery and hotel.
Plans submitted show a staged approach to constructing a new estate winery on the grounds, with the first stage to include the initial part of a hotel, a Nordic spa, and the winery itself. Additional hotel units are planned in the second phase.
While the hotel and winery would be built on the northern area of the property, the southern part would be used for the cultivation of grapes.
The hotel will initially consist of 74 units, spread out in individual buildings with one to four units in each building. In Phase 2 another 74 hotel units would be added. The estate winery would feature a restaurant and two event venues and the nordic spa would include a main building with several saunas and pools situated in a cluster around it.
The process to rezone the property was started in 2019.
The approved recommendation is being submitted to council for final approval.
