It’s time once again to take advantage of Belleville’s special day for giving away your unwanted items.
The city’s Green Task Force is organizing a special Giveaway Day.
This community event allows residents to put out used household items that are no longer wanted at the curb for pickup.
Other residents have a chance to take what articles they want.
These articles can include furniture, small appliances, books DVDs kitchen items and renovation materials.
Chair of the Green Task force Councillor Chris Malette says cleaning out unused items from our homes presents another opportunity to spare plenty of household items from the landfill.
“We want to divert from landfill. And reusing things. It’s very, it’s a very popular, economical, and you know ecological solution to a big problem.”
Malette noted, “The two previous Giveaway Days done through the GTF have been popular. We believe a summer of downsizing, folks on the move and cleaning out unused items from our homes presents another opportunity to spare plenty of household items from the landfill.”
He says, “As we saw with our successful spring cleaning Giveaway Day, we hope the end-of-summer day will again give an opportunity to share with our neighbours things we may not need, but others might find useful.”
The event will run Saturday, September 10, rain or shine.
Officials are asking that items be placed at the curb by 8 a.m. and brought back in by 8 p.m. on the event day.
