Charges have been laid related to a lottery scam where a victim lost $3,000.
Quinte West OPP received a complaint of fraud on August 12.
Police say the complainant initially received a phone call from a person claiming to represent a lottery and informed the complainant that they had won over two million dollars.
The suspect then requested money from the victim in order to access the prize winnings.
After an investigation, police say the fraudster was identified.
York Regional Police arrested the accused and transfered him into the custody of Quinte West OPP.
Fifty-nine-year-old Clive Lothian of Brampton is charged with the following:
- Fraud under $5000
- Personation with intent (identity fraud) – two counts; and
- Harassing communications
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on September 29, 2022.
