The federal and provincial government have announced that housing units for low-income households are on the way.
Federal, provincial, and municipal officials announced an eight-million dollar investment for the Elgin Park Redevelopment in Cobourg.
The federal government is investing $2.4 million through the National Housing Co–Investment Fund with an additional $5.7 million through the Canada-Ontario Community Housing Initiative.
According to a release, the investment will allow for the “intensification” of 18 existing semi–detached homes. This will allow for a series of 4–plex and 6–plex buildings, which will be a total of 40 total units.
Construction is underway and in the first phase.
The first occupants of the home are planned for the summer of 2023.
