There are four mayoral candidates in Prince Edward County.
The nomination period for this fall’s municipal election closes August 19.
Mayor Steve Ferguson, who announced his intention to run again several months ago, will face competition from Dianne O’Brien whom he defeated in the 2018 election, as well as Kyle Mayne and another former councillor, Terry Shortt.
In Ward 1 Picton (two seats), incumbents Kate MacNaughton and Phil St-Jean are both running again, as is Jane Leslie.
Current councillors Brad Nieman and Phil Prinzen have each filed papers in Ward 2 Bloomfield/Hallowell (two seats).
They’ll be running against Sarah Moffatt.
There will be a new representative in Ward 3 Wellington (1 seat) as the ward’s lone representative Mike Harper is not running again.
Currently there are three candidates – Heather Norlock, Corey Engelsdorfer and Jennifer Cobb
At this point, Janice Maynard is the only Ward 4 Ameliasburgh (three seats) councillor who will be seeking reelection.
Also running are Bill Tkach, Sam Grosso and former councillor Roy Pennell.
In Ward 5 Athol (one seat) there are four candidates, Sam Branderhorst, Tom Harrison Elis Ziegler and Bob Rogers.
Bill Roberts, the incumbent in Ward 6 Sophiasburgh (one seat) is the only candidate at this time.
Three people have filed papers to run in Ward 7 Hillier (one seat), Chris Braney, Dee Hazell and Paul Van Haarlem.
David Harrison and Ben Thornton are running in Ward 8 North Marysburgh (one seat).
And in Ward 9 South Marysburgh (one seat), John Hirsch, the incumbent, is the only candidate at this time.
A certified list of candidates will be prepared by the clerk once the nomination period closes.
The municipal election is October 24.
