Belleville police responded to 294 calls for service over a 96-hour period from 5 a.m. on July 29, 2022 to 5 a.m. on August 2, 2022.
Arrested on Warrants
On July 30, 2022 at 2:39 a.m,. Belleville police officers were on general patrol in the area of Olive Street and St. Charles Street when they observed a male who was acting suspiciously. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that 40-year-old Joel Maithlin of no fixed address had outstanding warrants for failing to attend court, failing to attend for fingerprints and forcible confinement. Maithlin was arrested on the strength of the warrants and transported to Belleville Police Service and held in custody for a short period and then released with a court date of August 18, 2022.
Stolen Bikes
On July 30, 2022 at 11:30 a.m,. Belleville police received a call to a north-end hotel regarding theft of bicycles from a vehicle parked in the parking lot. Police received information that guests staying at the hotel had parked their vehicle with two bicycles on a bike rack in the hotel parking lot. Sometime overnight, unknown suspect(s) cut the lock on the bike rack and stole the bicycles. The first bike is described as a white, specialized road bike and the second is a black Giant road bike. Domestic Dispute
On August 1, 2022 at 11:40 a.m., Belleville police attended an address on Hastings Drive in regards to a domestic dispute. Upon arrival, police received information that the complainant had been assaulted by their partner. While taking the victim’s statement, police received further information that the complainant had been assaulted numerous times in the past. As a result, a 22-year-old Belleville resident was charged with six counts of spousal assault. The accused was later released with a court date of August 22, 2022. The name of the accused is not being released to protect the identity of the victim.
