The Tweed, and Marmora and Lake fire departments, Hydro One crews, and tornado experts are all assessing damage today after severe thunderstorms, and perhaps tornadoes, struck along the Highway 7 corridor between Havelock and Frontenac Township Sunday night.
Marmora and Lake Fire Chief Tony Brownson says all of his department’s personnel and trucks were called into service as the storms roared through the area not far north of the village of Marmora.
“There’s some cottages with roofs off and missing boats and pontoon boats upside down and lots of trees down, hydro lines down.”
The cottages, 10 of them, were on Beaver Creek.
There was a lot of storm damage in Deloro, Eldorado, and Actinolite. Around 1,000 Hydro One customers remain without power.
There were no reports of serious injury.
Meanwhile two teams of researchers from Western University’s Northern Tornadoes Project are making their way to the area to assess damage and ascertain whether any of the damage was caused by tornadoes.
