A physician recruiter has joined the Prince Edward Family Health Team to help tackle the community’s doctor shortage.
Adam Hambly, a respiratory professional, will draw on his skills and knowledge of both private and public sectors to develop a strategy to bring new family doctors to the area and retain those already practising in the community.
Dr. Anne Nancekievill, Lead Physician for PEFHT Physician Recruitment and Retention says, “Adam’s experience developing programs and working closely with family physicians will ensure a smooth transition to this role.”
Mayor Steve Ferguson says Hambly’s hiring supports council’s commitment to tackling the shortage.
Prince Edward County Council allocated $150,000 in the 2022 budget to support physician recruitment.
During the budget deliberations, Council also received advice from the Physician Recruitment and Retention Working Group and the PEFHT on attracting five new physicians to Prince Edward County over the next five years.
The County would offer a $100,000 incentive to physicians, which would be paid out over five years in return for a minimum of five years of service.
An additional $50,000 would go to the PEFHT as part of an agreement to support recruiting and marketing efforts.
