Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison is excited about the future of his municipality.
Harrison says he and other officials had a very successful meeting with the two men in the process of purchasing the Nestle plant in Trenton Thursday.
It was announced earlier this week that the plant, which Nestle was going to close this year, has been sold to Ed Lamers and Ewart McLaughlin of Tillsonburg Custom Foods.
Harrison says while the sale is not final yet, and he can’t reveal any details about the meeting, the duo appear to have big plans for the facility.
“They’re in the business and they were impressed with the people that they met at Nestle’s and their attitude, their work skills, yeah, their commitment.”
The sale will not be final until late September.
And work continues to find a tenant for the old Saputo plant.
Quinte Economic Development Commission CEO Chris King, told Quinte News Thursday that the building has been purchased by an investment buyer who intends to lease out the building to another user.
