The weather was perfect and people want to enjoy summer this year after the COVID-19 shutdowns. Attendance at Belleville’s Waterfront and Multicultural Festival this past weekend proves that.
Jill Raycroft, CEO of festival organizer the Belleville Chamber of Commerce, says the number of people enjoying waterfront this year was at least as high or higher than before the pandemic.
While midway attendance and the number of shuttle bus riders have yet to be calculated, there’s a good guess on how many people came in their own vehicles.
“Four organizations were supported by the parking donations ($5) this weekend and I would say that by the time you add up how many people would be in each car we probably saw about 28,000 people come by car.”
Raycroft believes the crowd on Saturday could end up being a record one. Meanwhile people stepped up to support Chilango’s Restaurant. The Mexican eatery had to temporarily close after a ferocious windstorm last month. Chilango’s reported its highest sales ever over the weekend.
