Prince Edward County council failed to pass changes to the Special Events by-law at a special planning committee meeting Wednesday.
In a staff report, county staff says in light of the growing number and popularity of special musical and other events, the current by-law is outdated, allowing only one special event per season on any given property.
The proposed changes would have allowed for a maximum three-day long event to be held in any six day period, on any property zoned for tourism. This change would not apply to residential properties.
Councillors voted overwhelmingly against the proposal with concerns for noise and other affects on the community.
All other items on the agenda, including permitting the construction of bunkhouses for tourism industry employees, were passed.
Prince Edward County council will have the final say on all of the committee’s recommendations.
