Belleville’s Catharine Street footbridge project is on time and on budget.
Although the new and much wider arched bridge looks ready to use right now the city’s Manager of Engineering Ray Ford says there’s still some work to be done on foundations on the banks of Moira River and some temporary access routes have to be removed.
There’s more in-water work that has to be done and none of it can start just yet.
“There’s also some fisheries compensation work that we have to do. You know we have to clean up the riverbed and provide some compensation measures along the shoreline itself and that’s what we can’t do until after July 15.”
The new footbridge should be ready to open by mid-September.
