Belleville council will deal with a “vehicle-for-hire” by-law at its regular meeting Tuesday afternoon.
With transportation services like Uber and Uride coming on stream council asked that its taxi by-law to include those kinds of services.
In the proposed updated by-law the city will have nothing to do with setting ride fares, leaving that up to individual companies and operators.
There will also be no cap on the number of licences to be issued by the city.
All taxi operators, transportation network companies, such as Uride, and limousine service operators will have to pay an annual fee, and transportation network companies will pay 30 cents per ride that originates in the city.
