The Belleville Police Service is getting busier and staffing levels will be top of mind for the Police Services Board and management over the coming months.
At its meeting Thursday the board will see statistics showing total calls for service in the first three months of this year increasing by 669 or 14%.
Also in the first quarter the number of reported crimes climbed to 977, an increase of 24% from the 839 crime calls in the same period last year.
The Police Services Board will also see a report showing officers dealt with 443 mental health calls in the first quarter. Those calls involved 303 people.
Mental health calls are often difficult to deal with and time consuming putting pressure on the availability of front-line officers for other calls for service.
