A local artist has made national waves, as she looks to collect her first Juno award this weekend.
Emily Fennell, known by her stage name Miss Emily, hails from the County and is nominated for Best Blues Album.
Fennell says for as long as she can remember, she has wanted to be a professional musician.
“As five-year-old Emily, it’s like I want to be a singer. Now that I’ve been in it so long, I’m like what would I do? I would never do anything else, honestly I just wouldn’t.”
She says her battle to be recognized has taken a lot of work and dedication in a male-dominated industry.
She says she is humbled by her nomination.
“Nobody likes to eat humble pie, but I will do what I have to do. I’m just not precious. I was just put in this box, well we need a pair of boobs on stage, so call Emily, but then I got some great gigs out of that.”
Her category’s winner will being announced Saturday evening.
