The Belleville Police Service has added a new member to its family.

Monday evening, Constable Ben Walden was sworn in as Belleville’s newest police officer at the Quinte Consolidated Courthouse.
“I, Benjamin Mark Walden, solemnly swear that I will be loyal to Canada, that I will uphold the constitution of Canada, and that I will, to the best of my ability, preserve the peace, prevent offences and discharge my other duties as a police officer faithfully, impartially and according to law, so help me god.”
Walden previously worked with the Ontario Health, Home and Community Care services as a manager of clinical support and applications.

JusticeStephen Hunter, who has sworn in many of Belleville’s police force during his 30-year career, came out of retirement to preside over the ceremony.
Belleville has had policing since 1836, before both the OPP and RCMP were established in 1909 and 1920 respectively.
