“At the end of the day this is people coming to the community who will be paying this tax and helping us to support the growth of more tourism and more economic development activity in the community.”
Brighton’s King Edward Community Centre will be renamed in the near future.
Monday, council voted to rename the space at the arena the Owen Gibb Community Centre.
Owen Gibb, a former science teacher at East Northumberland Secondary School, has served 60 years with the Brighton Lions Club and council received several letters supporting renaming the hall after him, describing him as a “pillar of the Brighton community.”
ORGANIZATIONAL REVIEW
A much talked about organizational review for the Municipality of Brighton has been delayed.
Monday, Brighton council saw a staff report recommending consultants KPMG do an in-depth review involving staff and council members at a cost of almost $110,000 plus tax.
There was one lower tender for the work but KPMG was deemed to have better qualifications.
Council turned down the recommendation asking staff to ask KPMG to lessen the scope of work involved in the review with an eye to lowering the cost.
Council began considering an organizational review after a handful of senior managers left their jobs with Brighton over the past couple of years.
