An alert neighbour saved a Trenton home from being destroyed by fire Saturday afternoon.
Quinte West fire crews were dispatched to a Mayhew Drive home around 12:30 p.m. when the neighbour heard the smoke alarms and saw flames coming from the back of the house.
No one was home except for a dog.
Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the flames and save the dog.
Investigation revealed the homeowners had left pizza boxes on the stove and the dog jumped up to get the pizza and inadvertently turned on the stove.
Damage is estimated at $80,000 to $100,000.
