The City of Quinte West will be participating in a Community Trees Program, supported by Trees for Life and Lower Trent Conservation, for a free seedling giveaway on Saturday, May 7, 2022 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. or until the seedlings are gone.
A total of 8,000 tree seedlings will be given away to Quinte West residents at four pick-up locations.
Trees for Life is requesting contact information to help track the trees. Residents will be asked to fill out a short online survey that will tell us how your trees are doing in one year’s time and will also receive information on how to take care of their trees.
“Quinte West residents are lucky to have access to free native tree seedlings to plant and care for on their properties,” says Ewa Bednarczuk, Ecology and Stewardship Specialist. “The benefits of planting trees on your property are endless. Planting trees helps to clean air and lock up carbon, slow and filter runoff, replenish groundwater, and enhance habitat for wildlife, as well as increase property value and improve your family’s general health. We hope that many will take advantage of this program and help to grow our forest cover.”
As quantities are limited, one household will be permitted a maximum number of 20 tree seedlings.
Planting trees on individual residential properties is an important part of building a sustainable city and growing Quinte West’s tree canopy. Our collective actions make a big difference.
LOCATIONS: Starting at 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. or while quantities last.
