Prince Edward County is reconsidering how it deals with wandering large animals.
Last night, Prince Edward County council passed a motion to reconsider the appointing of a Pound Keeper and by-laws associated with big farm animals wandering onto roads and neighbouring properties.
The motion comes after council heard a deputation from Roy Pennell of Salem Road in Consecon urging county staff to take action before a serious accident occurs.
There have been instances of cattle wandering off their property on Salem Road.
The initial motion brought forward by Councillor McMahon, and seconded by Councillor Bailey, that council direct staff to bring a by-law and agreement forward with respect to prohibiting the running at large and/or trespassing of domestic large animals, and appoint a Pound Keeper by way of the Pounds Act, had been voted down at Prince Edward County council’s April 5 meeting.
An investigation by the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, requested by county staff, was conducted last week and is currently underway to determine whether further involvement is required.
