Quinte West OPP have laid charges against two people following a drug trafficking investigation.
Police say on Tuesday, around 11:30 a.m., the Quinte West OPP’s Community Street Crime Unit, assisted by the Belleville Police Service and the OPP’s Emergency Response Team conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle on Victoria Avenue, just west of Bertram Boulevard in Belleville.
A male driver and female passenger were both arrested for possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine.
Following a search, a quantity of suspected crystal methamphetamine, purple fentanyl and cocaine, with a street value of approximately $18,000, in addition to approximately $1,000 cash, and items related to drug trafficking were seized.
Cody Laird, 30, of Quinte West and Cassandra Phillips, 33, of Belleville have both been charged with the following offences:
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine;
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine;
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking -fentanyl
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000; and
Additionally, Laird was charged with two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
Both accused were held in custody and were scheduled to appear for bail hearing in Belleville on April 20.
