Belleville Police have collaborated on an initiative to bring valuable work to some Quinte residents.
Belleville Police Service, in conjunction with Pathways to Independence, has created a new position which will assist with sanitation and maintenance at the station.
Pathways is a non-profit organization supporting individuals with an acquired brain injury (ABI) or developmental disabilities. The purpose of the collaboration is to provide meaningful work to valued members in the Quinte community.
Chief Mike Callaghan says more businesses in the region should take part in this initiative.
“We need to be focused on people who are developmentally capable of performing work in our community and providing them with that opportunity.”
Pathways to Independence CEO Darlene McKenny says this program offers various benefits to those in the program.
“So, Pathways is very interested in expanding our supportive employment program that would allow some of the people that we support to have meaningful work in the community where they would earn minimum wage and basically be part of an employment team.”
Pathways is focused on expanding its supportive employment program moving forward with more employment opportunities in the region.
