The City of Belleville’s Green Task Force is pleased to announce that their annual seedling giveaway event will return to Market Square on Saturday, April 30 from 9 a.m. to noon.
Members of the Green Task Force and Quinte Conservation will be on-site to hand out the seedlings to Belleville residents on a first-come, first-served basis and provide information on planting and caring for the seedlings. There is a limit of five seedlings per household.
Species that will be handed out on the day include: white pine, red pine, white spruce, white cedar, red oak, white oak, sugar maple, silver maple, white birch, hackberry, black cherry, highbush cranberry, ninebark and nannyberry.
Residents are asked to bring their own bucket and plan to plant the seedling as soon as they can.
“We are very happy to be bringing this popular community event back to Belleville after a two-year delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Chair of the Green Task Force Councillor Chris Malette. “Planting these seedlings will help increase our tree canopy and provide endless environmental benefits for years to come as the trees grow.”
