Council in Belleville is seeking to approve a by-law regulating short term accommodations in the city.
If the by-law is passed by council during their meeting on Monday, it would mean no STA could operate in the city unless the owner has a licence to do so.
Other stipulations under the by-law include the property not being used for events such as weddings or receptions, a minimum separation distance of 100 metres between STAs and the number of active STAs shall not exceed 150 at any time.
Any legally existing STAs would have until March 31 to obtain a licence.
The by-law also includes provisions such as the owner or owner’s agent must me readily contacted within 30 minutes and respond to an emergency or contravention to any city by-law, including attendance on site within 60 minutes.
The licence would be valid for one year and requires general liability insurance on the property for no less than $2 million.
Council meets at 4 p.m.
