A well known Quinte region defence lawyer’s family has been involved in a tragic collision in the Sunshine State.
Saturday morning at 6 o’clock at an intersection on a highway near Jacksonville Florida, Pieter Kort’s family van was hit from behind by a cement truck. The van was pushed into an SUV ahead as both vehicles were moving away from a traffic light.
Kort’s law partner Ed Kafka confirmed on Facebook Sunday that Kort’s 10-year-old daughter Joni and 13-year-old daughter Madeline were killed by the collision’s impact. Another daughter, 16-year-old Hannah, and their mother Jamie are in critical condition.
Pieter and 15-year-old son Ethan suffered serious injuries and are being treated in hospital.
Media reports say people in the SUV suffered less serious injuries and that the cement truck driver was not injured.
There has been no word on charges from the Florida Highway Patrol.
