The newly-established Architectural Conservancy in Prince Edward County has set some of its priorities in preservation for the county.
About 50 people showed an interest in helping to preserve the history of the county.
Interim President Liz Driver tells Quinte News the idea is to consider concerns about landscapes, buildings and heritage and identify key issues to address.
Driver notes that some buildings have been torn down, some altered and some have been restored.
“We have this incredible record called the HFSI files which stands for Heritage Architectural Survey Prince Edward. The Settlers Dream 1984 (book) tells the history of the buildings in the county.”
“Those records are so important for when development applications come along. So heritage consultants depend upon them. People ultimately get access to them. They need to be digitized.”
She adds, “These are things we can work with the municipality on.”
“Monitoring activities at council with respect to development applications. To engage the public in heritage issues related to development.”
