By a four to three vote, Brighton council has voted to tender for a human resources firm to find answers as some on council are concerned with several recent resignations of municipal managers.
Councillor Emily Rowley says council had previously done well by hiring necessary staff.
“We got some good people in and you know some within months have left so that’s a bit concerning to me.”
Meanwhile Brighton Mayor Brian Ostrander voted against tendering for human resources consultants saying some on council have been reacting to rumours and meddling where they shouldn’t be with staff. Rowley says a close look is needed.
“… the whole organization, including council, and if some of those concerns have to do with some councillors meddling then so be it. We need to know that as well.”
Voting for a consultant’s search were councillors Rowley, Doug LeBlanc, Mary Tadman, and Mark Bateman. Voting against were Mayor Ostrander, Deputy-Mayor Laura Knegt, and councillor Ron Anderson.
