A Quinte West resident will present an alternative option to Quinte West councillors when it comes to dealing with gypsy moths.
Stefan Dixon, owner of Willows Green Permaculture, will address council on Tuesday night during their regular meeting to voice some concerns regarding the LDD (gypsy) moth Btk aerial spray program and present an alternative.
The city is planning to spray severely affected municipally-owned properties in the spring with a natural Btk pesticide.
Director of Public Works and Environmental Services Chris Angelo said last month they’re asking all rural property owners to be on the lookout for LDD moths, formerly known as gypsy moths and caterpillars.
A press release from Quinte West says in 2021 the LDD moth defoliated 18,000 square kilometres of Ontario forest with some of the heaviest moth concentrations found in eastern Ontario.
Council meets at 6:30 p.m. virtually.
