Belleville council is supporting plans to improve and expand the Pop-Ups By the Bay market.
At March’s operating budget meeting council will discuss investing $70,000 for capital improvements such as a gravel or durable permeable pavement courtyard, more seating, special events, and better lighting at the pop-ups location in Zwick’s Park.
Monday Councillor Chris Malette had others on council supporting his opinion that permeable pavement, which allows water to drain away naturally while protecting the ground from damage, would be a better option than gravel.
Meanwhile Councillor Sean Kelly said this summer should finally be a great one for the pop-ups venture as for the first three years of its existence it was sidetracked by flooding and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile discussions will be held with the Belleville Chamber of Commerce to provide a dedicated staff member to promote and manage not only Pop-Ups On the Bay but all events and facilities at Zwick’s Park.
