The Quinte West Chamber of Commerce held their annual State of the City luncheon this afternoon.
Mayor Jim Harrison provided an update and felt 2021 was a year of great progress and the city will only continue to move forward, despite a second year of shutdowns and restrictions because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He highlighted a number of projects such as the warming centre and Gift from the Heart, programs that help those who really need the support.
Harrison also noted the success of the Docs by the Bay program.
“The city is now looking to build some more doctor office spaces,” he said.
Mayor Harrison stated the city is continuing to work toward infrastructure upgrades across the board to ensure infrastructure assets meet the needs of the community.
“We want to expand Wooler Road to four lanes but in order to do that we need to repair that bridge,” he said.
Harrison also highlighted upgrades to the Stanley Park playground and the Frankford Water booster station.
He said the city is creating an environment that supports economic prosperity, such as the pop-ups.
“They worked well last summer and I’m sure this summer will be even better,” he said.
Harrison also noted the city’s support for the Hastings Prince Edward Humane Society and Hospice Quinte.
Mayor Harrison also took the time to thank each councillor for their hard work during this term and their commitment and dedication.
He also thanked city staff for helping to keep the city moving forward.
“The trust is strong in the whole organization and I trust their opinion,” said Harrison.
