Hastings County wants to have a bigger voice on Ontario’s new health teams.
Warden Rick Phillips raised the issue at a meeting of county council on Thursday.
“In eastern Ontario we as a county and municipal leaders believe that we should have a voice at the table as members of the new Ontario health teams. Eastern Ontario Wardens Caucus municipalities are key partners in health care.”
He pointed out municipalities invest $120 million annually in health-related services.
“We co-fund and deliver public health, Long Term Care, paramedic services, social service supports, support local Determinants of health, economic development, housing, safety and well-being.”
Referring to the recent meeting of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, Phillips said, “We told the government of Ontario that municipal voice at the Ontario health team is earned and is essential.”
