On a day where mental health issues are being brought to the forefront, the Belleville Chamber of Commerce held a special event.
Wednesday, the Chamber hosted the Bell Let’s Talk Over Lunch Party via Zoom where Sandie Sidsworth from the Enrichment Centre for Mental Health offered advice to employers on how they can support their staff.
She says listening is key.
“That’s probably, as an employer, one of the big things that you can do to support resiliency and support wellness as we move into this new endemic time, past the pandemic, is that listening and that trying to be flexible where you can.”
Sidsworth says wellness in a work environment isn’t necessary about spending dollars, just a willingness to create an atmosphere that makes people comfortable.
She also says we need to be kind to ourselves.
“Remember, for everyone, to give yourself some grace in all of this. We’re all navigating something different and if you’re being kind to others, remember, reflect that back and cut yourself some slack.”
Sidsworth adds it’s not just about talking today but where today’s conversations lead tomorrow and what actions we take.
