A Montreal man appeared in court to answer dangerous driving charges on Thursday.
Lennox and Addington OPP were assisting the Ministry of Transportation with a road closure on the 401 on Thursday, January 20 to remove a transport truck.
A vehicle was approaching the closure in an erratic manner and nearly struck an MTO worker. A cruiser parked at the off ramp with its lights activated was passed on the right by the driver. The driver then accelerated towards an officer who had to take evasive action to avoid being struck.
A second officer was able to complete a traffic stop on the vehicle as the driver continued on in the closed portion of the highway. The driver was subsequently arrested and charged is Muzzaffar Adnan. He is facing charges of:
- Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Two counts of Assault with a Weapon
- Assault a Police officer with a weapon
The 42-year-old was held for a bail hearing and was scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on January 20th.
