Tourism in Tweed took a dip last year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
A total of 2,770 visitors checked in at the Tourist Welcome and Information Bureau.
Curator Evan Morton reported to council on Wednesday that that is about half the number of visitors served during a year prior to the pandemic.
Morton says that among the many requests for information was one from Maclean’s magazine for text and photos relating to the beginnings of Price’s Log Cabin restaurant with its bears.
Another project was a Zoom presentation on the 1884 Hungerford Smallpox Epidemic.
The centre was able to conduct a few tours with limited numbers, abiding by government regulations regarding COVID-19.
Morton points to summer student employee Christie Leja who used her photojournalism skills to promote Tweed’s heritage and history.
Morton paid tribute to businesses that direct visitors to the centre and to the volunteers who assist there.
The curator also thanked Tweed council for its support.
