Tweed will soon have another way to enjoy the outdoors in their municipality.
There will soon be a skate trail around the soccer field in town.
At the municipal council meeting Wednesday morning, councillors approved the plan brought forward by staff.
CAO Gloria Raebone tells Quinte News that with another year of public heath measures it is a way for people to stay active. The town had built the trail last year as part of the Hydro One Energizing Life Community Fund.
“We were going to start with the skating part just around soccer fields for now so we could see how well we can get it going. We might eventually expand that farther down the trail which will eventually expand over and in behind the volleyball courts.”
The skate trail will not be staffed.
Raebone says if there are too many people on the ice to be distanced then skaters should simply come back another time.
“If people come and they feel there’s just too many people for their own comfort level and they can’t keep the distance from each other then we just ask that people respect that, and maybe wait ’til another day or another time.”
She says staff will be getting the ice ready as soon as possible.
