A former Belleville Police Chief is being celebrated as the longest serving active Chief of Police in Canada.
This month marks 20 years as a Chief of Police for Halton Regional Police Service Chief Stephen J. Tanner who is in his 40th year of policing.
When the Oakville native earned his first job as Chief of Police here in Belleville in 2002 at the age of 41, he was one of the youngest Chiefs in Canada.
Tanner joined the Belleville Police Service as Deputy Chief in 2000 and served as Chief of Police from 2002 to 2008.
