High case numbers have resulted in a backlog in the case and contact management process for Hastings Prince Edward Public Health.
As a result, there are delays in contacting individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 and their high-risk contacts.
The delay may be more than 48 hours.
Public Health says anyone who tests positive for COVID-19 must self-isolate and is asked to contact any high-risk contacts on their own.
A high-risk contact is someone who has been in close contact with you during your contagious period which is 48 hours prior to symptom onset/positive test result, and up to 10 days after symptom onset.
In turn, anyone who is contacted by someone who has tested positive for COVID needs to get tested immediately even if they have no symptoms or are fully vaccinated.
While waiting for your test result, you must self-isolate.
HPE Public Health says test results are available online but due to the increase in cases, it can take several days.
