Prince Edward County council has approved a by-law amendment to regulate parking on King Street in Picton.
Following the reopening of the Royal Hotel, traffic and parking on King Street have increased which has, in turn, made it difficult for seniors trying to make it to appointments at the Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association, according to a staff report.
Though the association has increased parking in its own lot, the free parking that was enacted on King Street during the renovations of the Royal Hotel has been taken advantage of by many people which has made it hard to find parking near the association’s offices at 74 King St.
At Tuesday’s Prince Edward County council meeting, staff recommended that a portion of King Street beginning at Ross Street and ending 100 metres to the east, which covers eight parking spaces and includes frontage of the association’s office, be designated a one hour parking zone.
The one hour parking restriction will apply from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m from Monday to Friday and, according to the staff report, would provide a reprieve for seniors struggling to find short term parking in the area.
