The mayor of Belleville Mitch Panciuk tells Quinte News 2021 was a year like none other but there were important highlights as the pandemic wore on.
” … the announcement by the federal government that they will be funding the new YMCA and that project is now going ahead at the old fairgrounds property and the grand opening of the police station. Those are big accomplishments in 2021.”
Panciuk had high praise for city staff and residents for overcoming the challenges posed by the pandemic and said it took a while to get over the pandemic’s restrictions but that eventually facilities were able to reopen, especially the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre, and life began to return to a semblance of normality.
“All across the city our staff have brought back our operational capacity and I see that as the number one accomplishment of the year.”
Panciuk also pointed to an article in national publication Maclean’s Magazine saying Belleville was the fourth best place to live in all of the country.
“It has done a lot to reinforce or validate for us what we knew, that we live in a wonderful community and having that outside perspective and recognition is really really important.”
