It was a tough night for local hockey teams as all three junior teams who were in action dropped their contests.
The Trenton Golden Hawks hosted the Cobourg Cougars at the Dunc in their fifth matchup of the season, the first four of which were won by Trenton.
The Cougars jumped out to a solid lead in the first as they scored three times in the first 11 minutes, enough to chase Trenton goalie Ethan Taylor for the night.
With Will Nguyen in replacement, the Golden Hawks came roaring back in the second and scored three times in just one minute, including a dazzling solo effort from Matthew Cato for his second of the period and one from Devin Mauro, to tie the game at three.
The Golden Hawks had the chance to take the lead when Jordyn Mughal was hooked on a breakaway but he was unsuccessful on the ensuing penalty shot attempt.
Before the period ended, Cobourg’s Zach Smith tapped one in from just outside the crease and George Krotiris scored on a one timer with two Golden Hawks sitting in the box to ice what would eventually be a 5-3 win.
The Golden Hawks are in action next on Sunday against the Wellington Dukes with the puck dropping at 7:30 p.m.
Elsewhere there were two local Junior C teams in action Friday.
The Napanee Raiders dropped a 6-2 contest to the Amherstview Jets while the Campbellford Rebels fell to the Port Hope Panthers 5-1.
