Project Impact is a go in Belleville.
Addictions and Mental Health Services – Hastings, Prince Edward (AMHS-HPE) and the Belleville Police Service have teamed up for the Integrated Mobile Police and Co-Response Team pilot project.
The same pilot project was launched earlier this fall in Quinte West and involves the AMHS assisting local police services as they respond to addictions and mental health related calls.
The Ministry of Health is providing more than $1 million to support Project Impact.
AMHS Interim CEO James Duncan says the need for this program has been identified time and time again.
Belleville Police Chief Mike Callaghan firmly believes the initiative will have a significant impact on those who may be suffering from mental health and addiction challenges.
So far the Quinte West project has proven to be successful and well received by the community.
