Active cases of COVID-19 broke the 150 mark Wednesday as Hastings Prince Edward Public Health reported 29 new cases and put the region into a red risk level.
There have been 15 recoveries since Tuesday leaving 151 active cases.
The Public Health dashboard shows the risk level in the community is currently at the red level but no extra restrictions in place at this time.
Twenty-one of today’s new cases are unvaccinated, seven are fully vaccinated and one partially vaccinated.
A dozen cases are under the age of 18.
Fourteen are located in Belleville with 13 in Trenton and one each in the Deseronto area and on the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory.
Four people are currently hospitalized with one in the Intensive Care Unit.
The number of active outbreaks is up to 16, including five at schools and childcare settings.
There are seven outbreaks related to HPE workplaces.
Hastings Prince Edward Public Health is also now reporting the number of vaccinations for residents aged five and up.
When factoring in the newest age group to receive a COVID vaccine, 83 per cent of the local population has received one dose and 78 per cent two doses.
Hastings Prince Edward District School Board reported cases of COVID-19 involving students at two of its schools Wednesday afternoon.
A case was reported at Park Dale School.
All high-risk contacts have been notified while a letter was emailed to families of students at low risk for exposure.
Another case was also reported at Trent River Public School but the board says the student was not at school or on the bus during their infectious period and there is no risk of transmission from the case at school.
Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit reported six new cases in Northumberland on Wednesday.
Fifteen cases are active.
