The project to fix the gap in the cell coverage to every home in eastern Ontario is moving ahead.
County CAO Jim Pine told Hastings County council on Thursday that work is going on with Rogers Communication and the Eastern Ontario Regional Network as the project moves ahead.
Pine says there’s also “a lot of consultation with Indigenous communities and First Nation organizations.”
Pine says the team is working “flat-out” on the site selection process.
“In order to site the new towers that will need to be built. You may remember that we’re talking about approximately 300 new cell towers will need to be built in order to close coverage gap around the region as part of the project.”
He added that work is also underway on upgrading existing towers.
“A lot of work going on as well in uplifting as they call it, or upgrading existing Rogers towers across the region with new equipment.”
“We’ll be back out talking to local municipalities and counties in the new year I suspect to give a further update on progress of the project.”
