A proposal is in the works to undertake some repair work on the Salmon River Bridge deck in Hastings County.
A staff report indicates that the existing bridge deck seals on the Salmon River Bridge have failed and need to be replaced.
Jewell Engineering has inspected the bridge and has outlined three options for repairs ranging in price from $50,000 to $1.2 million.
Staff recommend that council approve Option 1 which is the cheapest at $50,000 and has a life expectancy of five years.
A similar repair was completed in 2016.
The report and recommendation for approval is being brought forward in advance of the 2022 budget so that the work can be completed within the 2022 construction season.
The staff report indicates that the project requires lead time for engineering and tendering and delaying the project until after March jeopardizes the project being completed in 2022.
The report says that approving this project will not impact the 2022 levy since there are sufficient funds in the Roads Capital Reserve.
The staff report indicates the money will come from the Roads Capital Reserve.
County Council will consider the proposal at its meeting on Thursday.
