The Belleville Senators bounced back nicely Saturday night with a 5-2 win over the Laval Rocket.
Coming off a 4-1 loss to the Utica Comets last Sunday, Belleville looked to jump back into the win column against their divisional rival from Quebec.
Forward Mark Kastelic opened the scoring for Belleville with his fourth of the season with assists coming from Chris Wilkie and Cole Reinhardt.
Just past the halfway mark of the first period the Rocket evened the game on a Lukas Vejdemo goal.
The second period was one of firsts for two B-Sens as the Sens jumped out to a lead on Zac Leslie’s and Max Guenette’s first goals of both the season and of their pro careers, with the former’s coming on the power play.
With 30 seconds left in the period the Rocket scored once again to cut the lead to 3-2 heading into the second intermission.
In the third period the score remained 3-2 until the waning minutes when Belleville’s Dillon Heatherington and Matthew Wedman both scored into the empty net to ice the 5-2 win for the Senators.
For his part, goaltender Mads Sogaard fought off 35 of 37 shots faced on the night and even collected an assist on Wedman’s goal while earning his fourth win of the season.
On the score sheet it was Kastelic who paved the way for Belleville with one goal and one assist for two points, bringing his season total to seven points in 14 games.
Next the Belleville Senators hit the road to take on the Syracuse Crunch in a bout Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
