The sustained dominance early in the 2021-22 OJHL season continued for the Trenton Golden Hawks Friday night.
The east division-leading Golden Hawks played host to the Cobourg Cougars in an evening matchup, winning 4-2.
Though the Cougars jumped out to an early lead, Trenton answered back with a goal from Justin Mauro.
In the second, Trenton’s Jake Campbell and Devin Mauro both scored on the power play to extend the lead to 3-1.
Campbell netted his second goal of the game in the third and despite a late Cobourg goal, they couldn’t mount a comeback and the Golden Hawks won 4-2.
Across the bay at Lehigh Arena in Wellington, the Dukes welcomed the Toronto Patriots for a bout, winning 4-2.
Neither team was able to crack the score sheet until three-and-a-half minutes into the second period when Wellington’s Will Mitchell scored his fourth of the year to break the deadlock.
In the third, the teams traded blows back and forth right up until the late-going, with Harrison Ballard and Emmet Pierce answering Patriots goals, but it was the Dukes who pulled away late with an empty net goal from Graham Dickerson to seal the 4-2 win.
In Junior C action the Picton Pirates were blanked by the Napanee Raiders 6-0 on the road.
