There has been more vandalism at St. James Roman Catholic Cemetery in Belleville.
Last week, about 200 gravestones were spray painted in sections A and G.
Beare says they are devastated all over again.
“It’s just so discouraging and we are working as quickly as possible to have these stones cleaned again and hopefully before the cold weather comes in that we can get this work done.”
“We’ll be looking at cameras as soon as we can get them in, and that takes a bit of time. And then, we’re looking at security to ensure that, you know, at least till we get the cameras in, that somebody’s there patrolling the grounds.”
Another 255 stones were painted last week at the Elmwood Cemetery on River Road and the previous week vandals struck four Quinte West Cemeteries.
An anonymous local resident has offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
